Deliverology

Deliverology is a model for public sector organizations to manage and monitor an implementation. Deliverology has been referred to as the science for delivering results. The term was first used and developed by Sir Michael Barber for the UK government. The focus is on the need to set clear targets and performance measures, then constantly monitor to ensure these deliverables are met.

In Barber’s book Deliverology 101: A Field Guide for Educational Leaders, he describes five components that make up this model.

  1. Develop a foundation for delivery: define the issue, review how it is currently addressed, create a Delivery Unit, and establish a guiding coalition of likeminded people.

  2. Understand the delivery challenge: evaluate past and current performance to understand what is working and what needs addressing.

  3. Plan for delivery: determine your strategy to implement change, set targets, and create delivery plans.

  4. Drive delivery: determine routine performance monitoring, solve problems early, continually build momentum.

  5. Create an irreversible delivery culture: build capacity at all level and across the system, establish communication across the system, and focus on building strong relationships across the system.
