This is information that is collected firsthand by the evaluator or an evaluation team for a specific purpose. Some data collection methods for primary data includes surveys, interviews, observations, and case studies.

Primary data can be contrasted with secondary data, which is data that has been collected for a purpose other than evaluation, but is used in the evaluation.
