Sampling

Sampling is the process of selecting study participants from a target population. It is often impossible to include every individual within a population in an evaluation (for example, all residents of a city), so a sample is used to learn something about the population without collecting data from everyone. There are two broad types of sampling methods: probability (random) and non-probability (not random).
